Cats part 2 and other craziness

In my last post I talked about how we had a stray cat that had kittens -that we were trying find homes for - you might recall how I took the mama cat to get spayed so, there wouldn't be more kitties. And then the next day a lady came and took the kitties we had left and the mama kitty -only to return the mama kitty later saying she had to go out of town because her mom was sick and she thought it best for us to watch the mama while she was still recovering from getting spayed.
We had decided to keep 1 kitty and so we let him and his mom keep each other company outside until the lady was supposed to come back and get the mama kitty -about a week later she didn't call. Her number was off my caller id -I did write her # down although messily I tried to call what looked like the # -But, it wasn't going through. I thought I might try again in a couple of days however a couple of days later the mama kitty disappeared- after not seeing her all that day I got worried -I thought maybe she was hit by a car or someone took her in -or ?? -I looked around the yard -didn't see or hear her meowing -even drove around the block -didn't see her dead on the road or anything -So? I brought the other kitty in -so, he could get used to the cat and dog we already have and get used to being inside -at night he'd climb onto our bed and being the kitten he is attack our feet -etc. A few days went by still no sign of the mama kitty and I also called to make an appointment for our new kitty to get shots/neutered-etc. The day before time to take the kitty to the vet -he threw up but, it didn't seem like normal hairball stuff -he continued to throw up on/off that night and the next morning -I took him into the vet -They looked at him and said he did have a fever and was dehydrated -they decided no surgery for him -they instead did a blood test-etc. and found he had parvo -Which is bad -they kept him overnight -the next day we brought him home force feeding him wet food and medicine. It has been a few days now- he is finally back to himself and has an appetite back-etc. I think he'll be fine but, it seems he probably got it from his mom and she probably didn't survive -now considering she was here for at least 6mos. -not sure where she got it-she was exposed to some other places -vet,lady that took her for a little while, -other stray cats -So ? Kinda sad of course.
But, we have a new addition to our home and he's adjusting. It will be a couple of weeks before we can schedule another appt. to get him neutered-etc. And it will be interesting to see how it all goes -Since my son's birthday is coming up and my sis in law and her boyfriend our coming to town and staying here. The in-laws -it seems most people who go across the state might stay for the weekend but, his family for some reason seems to think it's fine to stay for about a week -They will get here sometime tomorrow(Thurs.) and they might leave Mon. or Tues, -whatever they decide at the time -Ugh! I just can never get used to their timeline idea -also when we go to visit them -it's like their offended if we only stay a day or 2 -again -Ugh! I mean maybe if it was across the country or something I could see staying about a week- but it's about a 4 hr. drive at the most. So, yeah in the next few days we'll have company and celebrate my son's bday - We'll see how it all goes - To be continued...

Cats! And I'm not talking the musical...

Although I did see that musical when I was younger and liked it and of course I like cats in general - But, as you may recall over the summer I had a stray cat hang around and then she had kittens!
I've been trying to get rid of them ever since -and let me tell you it's been a journey! I avoided the craigslist option because I really hate giving random people my info. -it's hard enough to share my info. with people from facebook and via posters placed in a few places especially when say I'd give someone my address and then they don't come to see the kitties - so many calls/interest but, so little people actually taking the kitties! Last Thursday I even spent some $ to get the mom cat spayed so, we didn't have more kitties running around and then I got a call 1st from a lady who said she'd give my info. to her friend that could probably help- her friend called later... she basically runs a cat rescue -I told her the mama cat was currently at the vet -she wanted to look at the kittens though -since they were out in the backyard I rounded them up and brought them in- trying to keep them in 1 area-which wasn't that easy. And finally the lady called back saying she couldn't make it afterall - She did agree to bring a big cage the next day- Friday and take the mom and 3 kittens (We kept 1). She did in fact come and take them -until... later that day she called saying she already found a home for 2 of them and her friend is watching the other kitten but, she got a call to go out of town because of her sick mom and asked if I could watch the mama cat for awhile longer since she's still healing and everything -I agreed -so, right now still have the mama cat and the kitty we're keeping and of course the cat and dog we've had for about 8 yrs. But, wait that's not all! Also Friday about 9 at night I got a call from my sister who's out of town for training with her job she's had a friend check on her cats -3 of them (she took 1 of the kittens I had), Another 1 of her cats she's had awhile, and then a really old 1 that was inherited from our grandma - The really old cat -died! And she wanted us to go get the dead cat and bury it our yard -she was a little upset and everything -so, finally agreed to get the cat -we opted to not try to bury it at 10 at night and kept it in a tote until burying it Sat. -So, yeah pretty crazy - Ever feel like your on some crazy sitcom?! So, that's how it's been going around here. It hasn't all been a crazy year -some good things, some not so good things -Surviving -How's it going with you?

Hi there -Been a long time -Huh?! I guess I've kinda lost my blogging mojo + of course busy with the kids and everything = me not blogging lately.
One of the things taking up my spare time is that I joined a book club -We've read quite a variety of books some newer ones like- Janet Evanovich's Wicked Appetite and part of the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton. And we've read some older books/classics like The Secret Garden and we just got done with Little Women. We also watched the movies -Which is another part of our club watching the movie (if there is one) after we've read the book. I really enjoy making some new friends, spending more time reading- and so far have enjoyed most of the books. It's just a handful of us -a couple people have moved-etc. so, really looking for a few more people to join (if you're in the Tulsa area and interested-contact me for more info ;)

But, that's not really all I want to write about here - Of course been busy with PTA stuff, my Examiner articles, kids, holidays,-etc.-etc. We had a good Halloween -Trick or treating/Boo Haha-etc. and good Thanksgiving going to visit my in-laws. Which means Christmas is coming up and -It's at my house-Eeek!! I've got the presents and most things ready to go -we ordered a turkey from Reasor's ;) and people will bring sides and pitch in- so hoping it all goes ok!
And I wanted to wish anyone -still reading this -A Holly Jolly Christmas and a Happy New Year!! Not sure if I'll blog more or less- But, thanks for your support! And I've still been reading blogs here and there too- So, hope to see you around :)

My neck of the woods -A hodgepodge...

I know it's been a little while since I've said what's going on in my neck of the woods - In some ways it's the same 'ol ; same 'ol --Kids go to school , Hubby goes to work- yada,yada- except there always seems to be something that happens to disrupt our schedule here and there -like my husband going on a business trip last week and a couple of weeks ago when this happened:

That'd be some people working on the gas meter/area- we had a leak -the guy put in a new meter and fixed that but, also noticed a tree stump going into the gas line. So, these guys came out to work on that a few days later -which is fine but, then some other guy was supposed to come turn our gas back on a couple hours after that -when the 2 hrs. passed my husband called and they said it'll be anytime between now (it was about 6pm until midnight -midnight-Really?!) After about 9:30pm we were getting tired so he called again and finally they sent someone about 10:30pm! So yeah that was that.

But, it's not all bad things interrupting the schedule -of course there's lots of school things -Open house, Parent Teacher Conf., PTA stuff-etc. And there's other fun stuff -like going to the last RHOK out and meeting the author of Perfect on Paper -and tonight I get to go to a special movie event -Jane Goodall Live -pretty exciting I get to use a "press pass"! And of course 'Tis the season for all kinds of fall festivals and fun -This past weekend we went to BrushCreek Bazaar:

The Talk- part deux

I know it's been awhile since I posted anything but, there's some things I want to talk about -like:

So, The Talk has been in it's 2nd season for a couple of weeks now - And there has been a little shake up...

Sans Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete. Even though they can be a little loud and crazy -(especially Leah ;) -But, I was surprised they're not on the show anymore. If it was just acting a little crazy at times -then what about Sharon Osbourne? -Oh maybe she's just got a little brown on her nose for finally getting Stevie Nicks to perform on the show(still love ya Sharon -just kidding -kinda ;) -So, that leaves Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, and Julie Chen as the originals still on -and now they've had on (temporarily at least) - Molly Shannon and Sheryl Underwood and also Kris Jenner.

Molly Shannon is of course great -loved her since SNL and Sheryl is great too -but, she kinda feels like the token black person and a mash up of other co-hosts of other morning talk shows *ahem-The View* -just saying she's also a black comedian like other people and all (just kidding-kinda -Ziiinnggg ;) No really they're both lovely and it's nice to know their backgrounds -I had no idea Molly Shannon and her family was in a bad car wreck when she was little -losing her mom,a sister,a cousin, and injuring her dad -leaving him to try to heal and take care of her and her other sister -(I can somewhat relate -since my dad raised me and my sis -but, not because of a tragic accident -and we still saw our mom -alternating weekends and holidays) And so proud of Sheryl's military service and sad to hear her husband killed himself -of course she does a great job of somehow cracking jokes and lightening the mood on tough subjects. And then there's Kris Jenner aka -Mama Kardashian -she's actually pretty good at the talk show gig -getting her points out there -that even makes sense sometimes -(again just kidding- kinda ;) -But, really it's all going ok -even though I still miss Holly and Leah at times - So far, so good -Of course this is all just in my humble opinion :)

Well, in my neck of the woods -I'm wishing we had more of the Labor Day weekend to go! - We didn't do much in particular - Was a little lazy and watched some movies -like Rio -etc. But it was such nice weather we decided to go play some mini golf yesterday:

Now I think we're all still a little tuckered out -My son isn't feeling good today -so, he's home with me today and I can't seem to fully wakeup *yawn* -Gotta get in gear though- Because even if I wish it was still the weekend -it's not! So, the 2nd week of school is under way and things are starting to go a little smoother -with the bus and all -and things in general are going smoother -Yay!

What else is going on? Well of course kids will be kids and boys will be boys and when I'm not stepping on toy cars on the kitchen floor -I find them on the kitchen counter like this:

Joining in with the RHOK's -Your neck of the woods- In my neck of the woods -the kids just went back to school yesterday:

And their school schedules have changed so I take my son to school 1st -Which it's always hard for me to up and around early -but, we made it on time! After that I have about 15min to get my daughter to the bus stop -which I did on time -but, the bus was late - I tried calling different #'s when I got ahold of the main office they just wanted to transfer me back to transportation -which just goes to voicemail/can't talk to anyone -Urgh! I thought about taking her to school after calling around -but, then the bus finally came -really late -Like school was about to start late! I know it takes some adjustment for everyone -but, Geez! Today the bus was late again -but, not as late at least -Hoping it will get better!

Just seems everything lately has been a bit of a roller coaster like that - Not to get too depressing but, 1 of the kittens got sick and died the other day -the others seem healthy so, hope they will be ok. Oh and someone -somehow got my husband's card # and made charges to our acct. -they are still processing the dispute claims-hoping that gets cleared up soon -So, yeah had some bad days lately but, just trying to remember -life's- Just a ride:

Joining in with the RHOK's -Your neck of the woods -I know it's been a little while -seems I've fallen off the blog wagon ;)

So, what's been going on in my neck of the woods? There has been some celebrating as my birthday was this past weekend. Also my sister's birthday was in July so, seems to be the past few years tradition is to have a family get together for a little combined birthday party:

My mom hosts a little family get together somewhere between mine and my sister's bday- we have some food and go swimming and all -Pretty fun. Also the hubby and I usually go out for a date night sometime around my birthday too -this year I decided to invite some friends along as a double date kind of thing. A few friends came out to dinner at Genghis Grill -Yum! -I also happen to have a coupon for a free bday meal there ;) After that a few of us went on to see the Drunkard play -Heard of it?

It's a pretty neat Tulsa tradition -in fact it's the longest running play in America! And it's interactive -where you cheer the hero and boo the villian -very fun and entertaining! -It's in a small,historical building so you have to get your reservations in. I recommend you see it at least once. I even got a free mug -saying I celebrated my bday there- along with some presents from family and friends -Gotta say -1 of the best birthdays I've had in awhile.

Anything else to celebrate? Well, the kids are almost ready to go back to school ;) We just got my daughter's schedule and we meet my son's teacher this week too -oh and I'm helping out with PTA stuff and everything -so, yeah -Busy week!

My neck of the woods

Still been HOT around here -trying to keep cool and everything. At least this past weekend was a little bit less hot -so, we decided it was a fairly good time to take a trip over the hill and through the woods -to ~~grandma's~~ -grandpa's (my dad's) house- and also take a float trip. If you're from around these parts you probably know that'd be the Illinois river around Tahlequah,OK

You see my dad lives out there in the family's cabin -it's pretty primitive but, he's been out there making a few changes -used to have an old outhouse now there's a new "fancy" bath house with real running water complete with toilet, shower, even a washer and a dryer but, the washer is somewhat outside -see:

And we all went on a float trip -we had a boys raft and a girls raft. Been awhile since I've went on a float trip -a fun but exhuasting time - luckily I survived with just a little sunburn and that's after wearing a hat, applying and reapplying sunscreen,and keeping a damp towel around my shoulders. We got home late Sat. night and Sun. morning I woke up to find that the stray kitty had her kittens -7 of them!

So, eventually will need to find them all homes -would like to find the mama kitty a home too -so, if you know anyone -let me know. Now we've been keeping an eye on the kitties and everything - And that's what's going on in my neck of the woods -How about you? What all's been going on around here? - Mostly trying to find things here and there for the kids to do and trying to stay cool! Last week we went on a tour of the Nonni's factory -Pretty cool to see how the Biscotti is made: Earlier today we went to the movies -not for a new movie -we saw Megamind - I just love the free or discounted kids movies during the summer and that is 1 we hadn't seen before today -it was pretty good. The only thing is of course the concessions still cost a pretty penny -but, not too bad for a fun outing. Not much else going on other than doing some cleaning and organizing around here. Sorry to miss last week -been pretty busy -busy with what you may ask - Well, in a few words -Family, Friends, and Food!

First I saw some family that was in town Friday before the 4th of July and went to a cookout. Then that weekend we headed out of town to visit my in -laws for the 4th of July -we hit the road and took a little Route 66 detour to Pops on the way too:

Once we got to Lawton we visited with more family -it's a pretty full house there so, we stayed one night at a hotel. Of course it's been mighty hot here and there- we all took a trip to Orange Leaf for a cool 4th of July treat. Later we had a cookout -etc. for dinner and of course some fireworks -not much since technically they had a burn ban.

Then we made our way back home the day after the 4th of July. Later last week we tried a new place here -Top that Pizza -It's kind of like a Subway but, for pizza -you go up and pick out your toppings -etc -and they cook your own personal pizza -pretty cool. Their drink /pop machine supposedly is pretty cool -but, it was out of order when we were there. I'll be excited when they get more (closer) locations -open soon.

And then this past weekend we went to another cookout with my book club group -it was pretty cool to get together and meet most of everyone's spouses and everything and of course have more good food ;) And that's pretty much what's going on around here other than trying to stay cool and get over some kind of cold /sinus issues -blah! Let's see over the past few days around here -we -went to Blue Bell's Taste of Summer:

It's was pretty cool- Blue Bell had a few bounce houses for the kids, some cool cars -etc. to look at, and of course lots of ice cream to eat! Even though we didn't stay long and I tried to stay in the shade I still managed to get a sun burn. We also went to see Cars 2 -it was ok -I think the 1st Cars is better and I was surprised that Cars 2 is rated G since it seems a little violent but, overall it was ok.

And what else has been going on? Well... Cats! There's been a stray hanging around -that I've been trying to get rid of -If you know anyone that wants it let me know:

And my sister would've probably taken the cat but, she just got a new kitten -she even brought it over for a visit:

We all had fun with it well, except my cat does not like all this new cat/kitten business -He's the ~~princess~~ king cat around here

So, that's pretty much what's going on around here and today felt like a summer miracle my son actually sleeping in until 8am -So, I got to sleep in too -And now it's rainy and gloomy -making me a little tired *yawn*

Around here of course we're still doing things to pass the summer by -Like this:

We've also been busy with other things -We celebrated my daughter's birthday!:

Officially a teenager now!

We also celebrated Father's day -by taking my dad out to eat after the Bday party -etc. too.

And it seems when we weren't busy with all of that stuff we had Dr's appts and more Dr's appts -My son actually had surgery yesterday to get ear tubes in and adenoids out:

This is after he got the goofy medicine and was a little loopy. Now he's recovering just fine -in fact we've been trying to remind him to take it easy.

My neck of the woods -Swimming

So, this past weekend was my husband's work -Summer Picnic - it was pretty fun -I'm always up for some free food and fun ;) There was a swimming pool -etc. But, the swimming didn't end there! One of his coworkers and his kids invited us to another swimming pool after that -so we went swimming some more:

The kids had a blast! -My daughter (and I even) went down the water slide-It was pretty fun! -but, It was our 1st time at that little water park and I didn't know floaties aren't allowed so 1 of the lifeguards came up to me about that (and offered a lifejacket)-Oh well now I know if we go back . I'm sure we'll be swimming again -but, not too soon - still sporting a pretty good sunburn -ouch! (And yes I did apply sunscreen -I guess just not enough) -The kids did not really get sunburned at least though. So, the kids have been out of school for less than a week around here and we're getting our summer started! ...

We went to Cherry Berry for the 1st time the other day (it was pretty good) and saw Kung Fu Panda 2. I can't say everyday has been super fun filled -We've been relaxing at home some and out and about for Dr's appt's -etc. But, the summer has begun and that's what's going on in my neck of the woods. The end of school for this year is almost here -which means a lot of end of year celebrations! -Well, mostly for the elementary crowd -my daughter was lamenting that all she gets is- to take state tests. She did get an award the other day for being a student of the month though...

The other day my son had a play day outside and a picnic lunch - Which they're supposed to have another picnic day and the talent show for the last day of school (His class is going to be in it -I bet it's gonna be so cute) -So, yep that's what's going on in my neck of the woods -How about you? No, no -not me, not mine -Whew! You see I pass by a field of horses -just about everyday -it's actually near my son's school -and I happen to think it's pretty neat. And what's also really neat is there's a baby horse now too! -see:

So-cute! Isn't it?! And I refuse to catch baby fever! -even if I did recently get a copy of my friend's book -about pregnancy-etc.

What all else is going on ? -Well, I just celebrated my anniversary this past weekend -and glad it wasn't the end of the world aka -my last meal ;) And so far have survived the storms -got some pretty bad hail the other night -no real damage thankfully though -My thoughts and prayers go out to those families that did have damage and might have lost their homes, loved ones -sad/scary times! So how's it been going in my neck of the woods?! In a word - ... busy!

Not only has there been the recent past holiday/ celebrations of Easter and Mom's day -but also planning for upcoming celebrations like - My anniversary, End of school, Daughter's B-day, and Dad's day! And not too mention going to other social gatherings -Like the awesome -RHOK out -Thanks ladies :), I've just joined a book club, oh and it's official -I'm gonna be VP of PTA at my son's school for next year -so been busy just getting ready for that too -In fact I'm probably at a "training" thing for that when you're reading this -So, yep sorry if I've been a little neglectful on the blogging lately -just been busy, busy around here. My neck of the woods -Mom's day Weekend

I hope everyone had a pretty good mom's day weekend! I had a pretty good one -even if it did seem a bit frantic at times - Here's how it went in my neck of the woods...

Saturday my daughter and I took a mother/ daughter trip to Philbrook -it was a nice trip and a nice day to walk around -but, a bit hot outside -we also had to get back and get ready for our dinner outing. It seemed we just got home for a little bit when my mom and everyone came over and we went to eat at Shogun's- That was also a nice and tasty outing! For Mother's day I got some cards and chocolates- etc. Later Sunday -I went to my Gma's to give her mom's day gifts and saw family over there again. Then came home and relaxed a little bit -All in all a nice Mom's day weekend!

PW's BHtTW - Marriage and a honeymoon

Week 4 of joining in with the RHOK reads:

After the big beautiful wedding -Ree and her Marlboro man set off for an Australian honeymoon - it was an "adventure" all right! Of course they -ahem -did things that married people do ;) and explored Australia -but, unfortunately there was also quite a bit of uh -throwing up. Which unfortunately I could somewhat relate to on my honeymoon -we didn't go to Australia or some other far away land -no, being a somewhat worried mom-leaving my daughter to be taken care of by family members we didn't go too far -we went to Texas - San Antonio to be exact. We took a flight there and back and even though I had been ok on my only other plane ride a few years earlier -for some reason I got air sick! -nothing says romantic like holding a full barf bag going to your honeymoon -right?! ;) And there was a moment I thought maybe I could be pregnant but, I highly doubted it -it seemed just the plane rides got to me. Once we were in San Antonio we had a blast -going to Sea World, Going along the riverwalk, and ahem -doing other things that married people do ;) -So, it turned out pretty well. And when we got back and picked my daughter we all settled in for our new life -all of us together. Of course for PW and MM -there was more turmoil to come - To be continued ...

My neck of the woods -The Clubhouse

We had this table left up from our Easter lunch - and my son of course wanted to make it into a clubhouse. Which we do occassionally have a fort/clubhouse up in the living room -so we agreed- it was kinda cute when he asked if he could keep it forever -I said I wasn't sure about forever -but, we'll keep it up for awhile. Joining in with the RHOK reads - Pioneer Woman's Black Heels to Tractor Wheels -Part 2 - this time:

Oh yes in part 2 we see more of the funny/embarrassing things that can/do happen to Ree - I agree wearing a wool suit to an Oklahoma summer wedding -not the best idea ;) That exact problem hasn't happened to me but, I do have my own sweating issues -my hands get clammy quite often (sorry if you've ever shaken my clammy hand)- And I can totally relate to the "Embarrassing, clumsy things happened to me with some degree of regularity"

Of course also in this part we see deeper into MM and PW's relationship as they spend time on the ranch, watching movies, driving around in his pickup truck - I love the part where she says "If Marlboro Man were moonshine during Prohibition, I'd smuggle crates of it across state lines and guzzle it on the journey; if he were a street drug I'd sell my hair to score a fix; if he were standing below a cliff; I'd jump off to be with him." -Anyone else get Ke$ha's -Your love is my drug stuck in their head after reading that? ;)

And yes I thought the marriage proposal might be some uber romantic happening at the ranch but it was more nonchalant when Marlboro Man came to Ree's house unexpectedly and he tossed her the ring asking if she wanted to marry him -After she got over the shock and thought it about it for a minute of course she said yes!

Then on to the wedding plans! ... sadly PW's parent's marriage was still falling apart -but, she tried to distract her mom with the many wedding plans /decisions. It sounded like a big,beautiful wedding - And so they were married! And as she alludes to in the last part -Part 3 - "The coming year, real life would come crashing in" - To be continued...

My neck of the woods - Our Easter

This past Sunday was Easter of course and we've had our decorations up beforehand for awhile. And Saturday we dyed our eggs and cleaned to get ready for everyone to be over here for Easter lunch

Then the big day came Easter Sunday - It was a stormy Easter -literally and figuratively as I was getting the ham and everything ready I asked my daughter to help but, she just gave me attitude -2 redheaded tempers do not go well together ;) -She did eventually help some and luckily we got most everything done before everyone arrived at our house. Once everyone was here and the food that people brought was situated we all ate and had a good time. We did have to do inside egg hunts -because of the rain. But, everything turned out pretty good -despite the stormy Easter :)

My neck of the woods -Broken Bathroom

My husband likes to joke that I can break just about anything -So, I guess it isn't too surprising that when I went to shower the other day -the soap dish thingy -fell off! (And as you can see we went about fixing it -no the duct tape isn't a permanent solution -it was just to hold it on there- while the adhesive was drying) At least it seems to be fixed and I will try not to break it again -admittedly I did sometimes hoist my leg on there to get a good scrubbing -But, it wasn't all my fault! I think it goes to a bigger problem that -Our bathroom is breaking! Somehow /somewhere our tub? is leaking! We have towels down to soak up the water -but, I think it's getting worse :( I know it needs to be fixed -and as I've been checking things off the proverbial list (get my hubby a car -check, get our van new tires and things fixed on it -check, get the pets their shots- check) -It's about next on the list. But, I'm nervous! I'm nervous about how much it will cost, about if they'll say we can't use our bathroom for a month, or,or,or....
In my mind it was something I was hoping to take care of in May(middle to end) -When school is winding down -things are a little more lax -etc. Now looks like after Easter -We'll be calling a plumber out sooner rather than later! So, that's what's going on in my neck of the woods -P.S. -Any advice appreciated. So, will she or won't she - Move to Chicago as planned? As she goes back and forth -she ultimately decides...

To take a chance on love with the Marlboro Man and doesn't move to Chicago! And yes, again more swooning -I love the part where she tells him of her decision -which leads to a good makeout session "Before I knew it we were back where we'd been before, rolling around and kissing manically in the bed of his diesel pickup. Occasionally my arm would hit a crowbar and my head would slam against a spare tire or a cattle prod or a jack ; I didn't care, I'd said what I wanted to say that night. Everything else -even minor head injuries -was a piece of cake."

I love how no matter how cool she may seem there are things like bumping her head on a spare tire, or almost falling/ spilling her purse, and all the inner dialogue that goes on -that makes us less than cool - clumsy girls relate ;)

I also like that she mentions - that feeling of it's just them -in love -but, oh yeah -there are other people to consider here -gotta meet the family and all ! And what an impression she must've made not quite making a turn and her car getting stuck in a ditch -with Marlboro's mom in the car! And after all this meeting his family and being in love -she comes home - to be shaken to the core -finding out her parents are having marital problems -If her parents who had been together for thirty years were having problems -what does that make of love ? Even though Marlboro Man does make her feel less disheartened - What will happen next? -To be continued...

The Kids -Ages and Stages

Just a little update today on the kids...

My son recently turned 5 -it's 1 of my fav. ages because they're old enough to do a lot of things on their own -like going potty -But, still need their mama for a lot of things too. At this age they are also good helpers. And say the darndest things -as mentioned in my previous post we all took a trip to the vet recently - there was a cat in a cage for adoption -and my son asked "Why the cat had a hole" as he was pointing -I explained that's where it goes poop -maybe because it had lighter fur that he noticed it on that cat and not ours before? Me and the receptionist got a little giggle out of it anyway. Also the other day we were getting ready to walk into a store when my son stopped and sniffed -*sniff *sniff and said -"Hmm -smells like yellow" -Lol- Where does he come up with this stuff?!

And as far as my daughter she's almost officially a teenager -yikes! It's kind of a strange age -being a lot more independant in a lot of ways but, then not in some ways. She gets embarrassed by us "old folks" a lot. She's taller than me now (not that -that's too hard to do;) and blossoming into quite the beautiful young lady. As an early bday present we got her a cell phone recently -and we've already had to take it away once -Because of "the attitude" - she certainly has the eye rolling and teenage attitude down -Yeesh -Teenage daughters:

My Neck of the woods -Cat in the Hat

My son brought home this cat in the hat -hat- home from school the other day -and I thought it would be appropriate to put it on our cat -We ~~torture~~ take care of our pets like that around here ;) Last week we also had to take our pets in for their annual shots - you know my cat especially loved that -achem *sarcasm*. The past few years I would stagger our cat's and dog's appts. and my husband would take them to the vet -while I stayed home with the kids. This year I decided to make it a *fun* family outing. We took our cat and dog at the same time and we all went-all 6 of us (counting the cat and dog). It might've been a little experiment to see how it would all go. Our cat was angry as usual -our dog scared as usual -and my son got upset -I took him back out into the waiting area and we hung out there while my husband and daughter were in the exam room. Guess I'll know for next time -Wish me luck when I take our dog in next week for a teeth cleaning! And, that's some of what's been going on here -How about you? Black Heels to Tractor Wheels -Ch. 1-5

I'm joining in with the RHOK reads:This first book being Oklahoma's own -Pioneer Woman and her love story -Black Heels to Tractor Wheels.

First let me start off by saying although the Pioneer Woman is a fellow Oklahoma Blogger -and I have visited her site -I'm not a devout follower -I know, I know -now you can pick your chin up off the floor ;) For some reason I can sometimes be cynical /not wanting to "buy into the hype". So, although she may have told some of this story on her blog -it is all new to me. And I wasn't really sure if I could relate -even after reading the 1st page of the book where she said - "I was mired in a papery swamp of study guides, marked -up drafts of my resume', listings of Chicago apartments, and a J. Crew catalog, from which I just ordered a $495 wool coat in olive, not chocolate, because I'm a redhead, and because Chicago, I reminded myself is a tad more nippy than Los Angeles, which I just left weeks earlier"
About the only thing I could relate to in that was being a redhead and maybe the drafts of resume's. I don't think I've spent almost $500 on any article of clothing or even $400 in my life! I was a bit surprised to learn that Ree did in fact come from an "affluent" background. But, that aside I have to admit she does write well and as it got juicier -the more interested in the book I got.

I can't say that I've had any ex boyfriends/ dates exactly like hers -even though I might not have minded a "British guy that worked at the country club" -who doesn't love an accent -right? ;) But, what I could relate to is the dating world in general -guys who are into you more than them and vise versa. As I've mentioned some of my ex -experiences before. (I wonder if she was as nervous as I was about writing about ex's -if she changed their names or anything). And as I got more into the heart of the story -it is a love story about how she met her husband and the beginning of their relationship afterall -and it does make you Swoon indeed -Ahh the feelings of new love! But, what about her plans to move to Chicago ? That would probably put a kink in things with her new Marlboro Man -What's a girl to do? -To be continued...

Well, spring has sprung around here and I was wondering if the plants I got for Mother's Day last year would come up again or if I would need to buy new ones ( I do not have the best green thumb ;) -But, low and behold -at least 2 out of the 3 are sprouting again -Yay! :

We've been doing some yardwork around here lately -This past weekend sure was nice weather to be out and about -My dad even brought some plants -tomatoes-etc. and the kids helped plant them:

Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend -He may not be the traditional smoldering hunk of meat but, he's sure does work that sexy boy next door vibe!

Tyler Glenn of Neon Trees -He's got that good guy but, yet punk rocker sexy vibe going -Mmm-hmm!

Tyson Jay Ritter of All- American Rejects -I mean just look at him-Super sexy rocker -and he's even from Oklahoma!

Jared Leto of 30 seconds to Mars -I've thought Jordan er- I mean Jared was hot since he was on My so called Life. And even when he's sporting a pink mohawk he looks good! Shh! his band even has a very kinky video -most of them around the 'net are even censored.

MckLinky Monday -Spring Fashion

Today on the RHOK Mrs. Sinclair is talking about spring fashion -And wants us to share some of our spring fashion finds...

Well, I admit I've never been a big fashionista -I do know that spring = flip flops and giving your feet a good pedicure to be flip flop ready -So, here's my new flip flops and pedi:

For me even flip flops must have a little bit of heighth ;) And I had been on a bit of a search to find some new ones -since my cat chewed my old ones -no really he did see:Ugh -It's kinda embarassing that I still wear them -just around the house now though- That way my crazy cat won't mess with my new ones too much.

About the only other spring clothes I've gotten recently is a couple of shirts that I surprisingly found at Burlington Coat Factory -originally my husband was looking for clothes there but, my daughter and I found some clothes too -Here's my finds:

My shirts are on the left (ignore my husband's clothes on the right ;) I think the black shirt is a good business casual look. And the blue one is so cute with the little ruffle -Haven't found an ocassion to wear it yet and probably won't this week -since it's turned up cold again-Brrr! Oh also 1 more somewhat clothes related item:Since it seems everyone was talking about this wrinkle spray I got some -and yep it does work pretty good! (Just ignore the toilet in the background -I generally hang my clothes on the shower curtain rod to spray my shirt -etc ;)

It's Friday! -a week in review

So, again I feel like I've been a bit neglectful on the blogging front -although I loved taking a little vacation last week -it seems to take awhile to get caught up on everything! Like my TV showz -which really it's hard to keep up on that stuff anyway ;) I've also been a little preoccupied with reading the Hunger Games trilogy: I know I might be a little late to that party -But, at least I read them before the mass hysteria hits when the movie(s) come out -sometime next year -Can't wait to see that!

I've also been trying to keep up with going to work out -but, haven't done that much either.

At my son's school they're gearing up for a fun Bingo night -next Fri. -Been helping with that some too.

So, yeah just getting back on schedule of the daily grind -And glad today is Friday!

Have you seen this video yet? Seems everyone is talking about it -It's true not the best song or singer but, hey she's just a kid and I know it's better than I could sing and it's kind of a catchy tune - especially since it's Friday ;) -Happy Friday and weekend!

Last week -our Spring Break

I know I've been kinda absent the past week -it was a busy Spring Break for us!
Generally we don't have any big vacation plans just do things around here like go to the zoo-etc. But, this spring break we took a trip to Texas! It all started a few mo's ago when I won a trip to Arlington -but, at the time we had no extra $ for gas and food-etc. Most of the tickets we had -expired by now (Texas Rangers game-etc.) But, the free hotel night was still good until May -So, we planned a Spring Break trip. We planned to leave Sun. use the free hotel night then and pay for an extra night and come back Tues. But, my son was sick on Sat. -my husband took him to minor care -got him some medicine and even though we was feeling better -we pushed the trip back a day. We left Mon. -on the road to TX - and made it -woohoo- See:It seems around the Dallas area there are quite a few suburbs that all kind of run together -Ft. Worth,Grand Prairie, and where we stayed -Arlington. Here's some pics of the hotel:

It was ok -It had it's pros and cons. Like no free breakfast or even room service you could pay for -breakfast anyway. The pool area was pretty cool-it had both an outside and inside pool area-it was too cold for the outside though. The staff was nice. Also a plus it was very close to the attractions we were going to see. 1st we went to Ripley's Believe it or Not -even though it was down the street it was in Grand Prairie: We saw the Palace of Wax -Seeing wax figures of celebs,presidents, and other famous people. And then we saw Ripley's "odditorium" -With all kinds of cool/interesting items. I also thought it was cool how outside there were these huge dinosaur statues. After that we ate at the hotel restaurant for dinner -which wasn't that great. And then got settled in for bed.

The next day -Tuesday we spent most of the day at Six Flags which was also near the hotel -They even offered a Trolley that we took there:We spent all day riding rides, taking a couple of breaks to eat -1 of the places we ate was Johnny Rockets -it was ok -of course somewhat overpriced being in an amusement park though. My daughter and I rode the big red,black, and yellow ride -it was fun but, we waited over an hour in the line to ride it. While we did that my husband took our son to see some of the "Justice League" -He thought that was pretty cool. It was a fun time -we actually ate dinner there at a Panda Express (better priced) before heading back to the trolley and back to the hotel. Then we tried the inside pool -it was ok -kinda crowded so we didn't stay long. Then we again settled in and once we all woke up in the morning we got ready and headed home -Wednesday.

Thursday -St. Patrick's day! I'd like to think wearing my "lucky" irish jewelry helped us find a car for the hubby -So, now he has a car to drive to work and back-Yay! Also while we were out and about Thursday -I cooked Corn Beef n Cabbage with potatoes and carrots in the crock pot -So, we had a nice St. Pat's dinner including some cookies I picked up for dessert:I also went to friend's for a potato party. Friday- my dad came over to help cut a tree down at the side of our house -it was rubbing against the house so much -the paint has come off there! We also did our grocery shopping and other things too. Saturday we had another fun day -we saw Gnomeo and Juliet and ate dinner at Incredible Pizza. And then Sunday we cleaned and got geared up for school and our normal schedule. And that was our spring break!

MckLinky Monday -Who am I?

Today on The RHOK -Mrs. Edwards is talking about who we are -in the blogging sense and asks -Who are you?" "What's your top searched/viewed posts"?

Well, for me as mentioned on the sidebar and other places on this blog -I am mostly a "mommy blogger" giving a voice for all "The Mom Mayhem" that happens in this parent's life -past and present. So, of course I ~~talk~~ write about my kids and things going on in our lives a lot -But, of course that's not all. Sometimes I might have little tidbits of advice or cool pictures to share.
Another subject I love to talk about are things going on in pop culture -maybe viral videos or the latest tv show.

For instance my most viewed post as of now is The Talk vs. The View and I love how sometimes I feel I've really gotten into the "pulse" of things when say there's a recent SNL parody on the same subject:

My 2nd most searched/viewed post is about the latest Bachelor show with Brad Womack -I'm sure that will taper off now that the show is over. But, yeah that's pretty much most of my top 10 -People searching variations on those 2 shows. Also it seems some people think Brad is narcissistic because there's some variations of people searching that and somehow come to my post -Not sure how that happens but -Oh well.

It's always interesting what people search and end up on here -I'm not sure if it's accidental but, some do search variations of -The Mom Mayhem -For instance- not sure it's me or something a little more sinister when they search "Mom of Mayhem" and come here -But, you never know -Maybe I am making a name for myself - a girl can dream can't she ;)

MckLinky Monday - Treasures

Today on the RHOK Mrs. Albright is sharing some of her treasures and asks "What's something you own that has great value to you? And why is it important?"

There are so many things -of course there are some things that are priceless -Pictures of my kids;family -mementos from my hubby,kids, family -etc.

And speaking of family mementos/ heirlooms -it was about this time last year that my paternal Gma passed away- I have a few things from her house -Like this:This 1 picture I would look at often in her house -it's now hanging in my bedroom -I believe it's a Harrison Fisher print -which I also got a Harrison Fisher book -as shown in the picture- here's a little information about Harrison Fisher. I know it's an antique book -not sure if it's really worth much in "real life' money as most of the pages are not connected into the book now. I do love the book -I also love how my gma had other papers/pictures in the book -She was always 1 to be crafty and make things look expensive for not much money -I can only imagine the "projects" she had in mind with all the papers.

Also since it is almost St. Patrick's day -I must add some other items -my

St. Patrick's day jewelry:

I have 2 -4 leaf clover necklaces -1 that's a real 4 leaf clover, the other I now know-needs a stone put back on. I have a bracelet with 4 leaf clovers and a real Irish pence -(each side shown in the different pics-I kinda collect coins BTW) And then I have 2 rings -1 that's an Irish Claddagh/ wedding ring - BTW-it was only now that I looked up info. about it that I realized the meaning of how you wear it -guess I better make sure I wear it right next time ;) And another ring with my birthstone -Peridot -I think the green color works great for St. Pat's! I bought most of these for myself out of catalogs -my other gma did give me the birthstone ring though. I just love 4 leaf clovers, celebrating St. Patrick's day (must be the irish coming out in me), and of course my birthstone :)

The Friday Five

I haven't done a Friday Five in awhile - I've probably told you that I love watching YouTube videos - But, maybe I haven't told you that just like there's blogs I follow -there's certain people I follow on YouTube that do vlogs n stuff -So, here's 5 Youtube channels I watch often:

1. Italktosnakes

She recently celebrated her 4th vlogiversary as she talked about in the video I posted -even though I haven't been following her that long -she's pretty awesome! Also she's like everywhere! She's on a couple other channels-like this one, 1 for the band she's in -(they even toured in OK and other places -but, I didn't get to see them). She's also on a couple of websites and just everywhere it seems.

2. Meekakitty

Another semi -geeky but, fabulous lady -who's just beautiful -She does actually work as a model sometimes -IRL! Also at about minute 2:45 -you might recognize another YouTuber. This video of course is a music video -but, she does do more vlog type stuff sometimes -like at the end of this video.

3. WheezyWaiter

Love his intro music -and yes I might be a beard lover ;) He posts almost everyday. He's also in a band and can be found different place around the 'net. He's funny and quite entertaining.

4. The annoying orange

I watched them -now my kids are obsessed with these videos too. Always entertaining -and did you see who played the pistachios? ;)

5. Take 180

There are so many spoof videos and channels -this is just 1 I check out a lot.

How I became a statistic

So after high school I got a car, my 2nd job, and eventually my own place. I was enjoying my freedom. 1 day I took a little trek to a local hamburger place where I met a guy -I knew he was kinda putting the moves on me and although he was the type of guy your parents warned against -older, with a van- and only 1 thing on his mind -Surprisingly I didn't really care. We were together for a little while and we had a good time. I knew we wouldn't be together forever -not the guy I wanted to marry -So, I was ok when he wanted to break it off. Besides I had other guys interested in me anyway...

Although I was enjoying my freedom I was still fairly tame -I did still go to church occasionally. There was a guy at church - we kinda dated. At my job as a waitress -there were guys all the time that would flirt and I would flirt back sometimes -it seems a lot of them were a bit skeevy though. There was 1 guy that was really nice though-we kinda dated. And there was another guy who I'd known through school -we kinda dated. I remember thinking it was pretty awesome coming home to my own apartment and there would be literally messages from these 3 different guys. So, yeah I kinda juggled them for a bit -but, I knew once it started getting serious I'd have to make some tough decisions... 1st the church guy -we ended up making a pretty mutual decision to break it off . The guy who I met through work -he was seriously so sweet -he was ready to take things to the next level -but, I just couldn't -I had to tell him there was someone else -breaking hearts can be really hard!

So, yep for some reason I decided to take things to the next level with this other guy. And yes -he is my "baby daddy". Unlike other teen mom stories I didn't give birth in a Walmart and it didn't exactly all start in Spanish class -although we did have Spanish class together. No, we originally met years ago-yep- on the school bus. *flashback* We were friends -I knew he liked me -and I did flirt with him sometimes-(I've been called a tease more than once in my life ;). But, I didn't want to cross that line besides I didn't think he was my type -he was kind of the brooding ; smoke behind the building at school kind of guy. We would talk on the phone a lot though. Over the years we lost touch after we both moved a couple of times. But, it seemed we always got back in touch -He called me after he was in a bad wreck and in the hospital -We even went on kind of a date soon after that -as he hobbled around with a rod in his leg. I was surprised by how much he changed since the last time I saw him -less scrawny more buff and more handsome in general. I thought maybe he would be my date to senior prom -but, he lived in a different town and by then had started to see another girl. I actually didn't even go to my senior prom even though I had a dress and everything. Anyway *fast forward* -He was 1 of the 1st people I called to come see my new apartment -we started hanging out- we were together in every sense of the word. Soon I found out I was pregnant- in the beginning things were great. There was even talk of marriage -But, at times it also felt like more of an obligation. I knew he was the type to smoke,drink,and party in general -even though I did go to a few wild parties it was never my scene. I began to wonder what was more important to him -us and our baby -or partying. He lived with me for awhile -that was a disaster. Soon it all just seemed like a disaster. I eventually realized -I was pregnant and I really wasn't ready and he wasn't either -he was actually younger than me (by 6mo's) and still needed to finish school. I called my dad -he helped me get all my stuff and I moved back in with my dad -but, then that was about 300 miles away from where I was. I was still with my "boyfriend" but, most of the time I would call him -he wouldn't call me -he didn't make plans to visit me - I knew his vehicle was not that reliable though. I don't remember now why -but, my dad and sister were taking a trip that way -so, I took my very pregnant butt on this trip -several hours away. I finally reached my "boyfriend" on the phone and told him he better come make the 15min -30min trip to see me at this hotel we were staying at -But, he wouldn't! So, that was it -We officially broke up. I later learned from some of his family that he was pretty bad into drugs and supposedly didn't want me to see him like that or whatever. I've only talked/seen him a couple of times since. His mom and him did make the trip to see his daughter soon after she was born and they did bring gifts and money to help me out. And I took a trip that way once while she was still a baby -But, there was no talk of trying to reconcile. I did what I felt was best for me and my daughter -I know people that struggle with addiction -it's a life long struggle. I'm not really sure how his life is now -if he's "clean" or not or whatever. I know he's out there -and his mom even recently tried to contact me through facebook -I haven't heard back though -So, we're still in the same place. But, that's the story of how I became a statistic and my ex-factors. Some of my exes I know bits through the grapevine, some I have no clue, I think most still live in this state-some pretty dang close!, I even have a confirmed gay ex-boyfriend-we're still friends BTW, and then there's other connections-the flirtations,the crushes, maybe someone had 1 on me I didn't know about. Of course all that is in the past now -just part of my story -and then of course I met my husband -And in the present we'll soon be celebrating 12 yrs. of marriage :)

I've thought about doing this post like a billion times -maybe it's because I just watched the latest Bachelor show -And I guess just knowing that we all go through different relationships that's making me a little reminiscent -So, bear with me -Here goes about some of mine...

I guess my 1st real "boyfriend" all started with literally the boy next door -As I've mentioned before about the house I grew up in (the house next door we could see their kitchen window by stepping out onto our back steps). I was very curious about the new family that moved in -A single mom with 3 boys. The oldest boy -was a trouble maker, the youngest boy was just the annoying little brother type, the middle boy though -I thought was very cute and nice. It seemed all the neighborhood kids got together and played at our house a lot -and it seemed we tried to play together a lot -him and I -as a team. It was all very innocent puppy love- I was maybe 11 or 12 - We only stole a kiss once- not too long before they moved to another state. Even though we did talk a couple times on the phone alas that was the end.

In junior high- I had lots of crushes -NKOTB,other celebs, guys I thought were cute in school -honestly I was pretty boy crazy -but, the thing is boys were not crazy about me -I did go through a very awkward phase around that time though. It really wasn't until high school that I blossomed out of my awkward phase and boys started to notice me again. And wouldn't you know down the street a new family moved in -Parents with 3 boys -again the oldest boy (who also had the same name as the other oldest boy) was a bit of a trouble maker, the youngest -too young, the middle -just right ;) We walked home several blocks from the bus stop after school everyday and talked-we hung out a lot, he even asked me to the formal dance- the 1st dance I had a date too. But, eventually he just wanted to be friends -which we were- we even kept in touch for a little while after he moved to another town. But, before he moved- I was sad around Valentine's day that I didn't have a Valentine -they were doing compatibility tests at school-I took one and found out my top match was in 1 of my classes. We started talking -even got caught kissing in school -even though he was great -honestly I think he was just a rebound -something just wasn't right for me -I never had to break up with anyone before -it was hard! I was single for awhile after that -I've found that a lot guys wouldn't automatically think I was "hot" but, once they got to know me -realized I was pretty awesome -if I say so myself ;) There was this 1 guy -timing- we had some classes together I had a crush on him but, he had an on and off girlfriend -he actually called me 1 time when they were off -I got the message-I called him back-but, didn't hear from him -The next time I saw him he was "on" again with his girlfriend. Well, anyway as I was saying the boys that got to know me and I got to know them best were those that I rode the bus with... When I was a junior I went with a guy from the bus -he was nice and again I had a date for the formal - We became very close -even after my dad moved the summer before my senior year -he coordinated a visit to see me that summer. I did move back for my senior year -but, had to live with my gma. So, we were together again -until I think I became a victim of "put- out or get out" -Yep he found someone else and broke up with me. Again I was single for awhile -until after I graduated from high school anyway - And then that's when IT happened -I became a stastic -a pregnant teen! Come back later for more -To be continued... Omg -It's March!

I can't believe it's March and I don't have a post for this month! (even if it is only March 4th ;)
Been kinda slackin' around here - not on purpose - Just been kinda busy...

Last week I joined Curves so, been trying to hit the gym -I've only been twice so far though. It's a circuit gym where they have different machines in a circle that you go around and do each machine -I've been to 1 other circuit gym before- soon after I had my daughter and I liked it -Hopefully I lose some inches and lbs like I did before-which of course is the ultimate goal. But, I haven't even been able to go to the gym that much -I went Tues. and was thinking about going Wed. but, Wed I woke up with a terrible headache and later felt nauseous -I had a breakfast of saltine crackers and water -but, they didn't hold too long -if you know what I mean -I did feel better after I -uh -upchucked- which was good because I still had to take the kids to school and everything -and for a brief moment I thought about calling my husband- but, then I remembered he still doesn't have a car (bumming rides to work) and he had a big important meeting with his new boss -so, I sucked it up and took the kids to school - then rested most of the day.

Yesterday -Thursday - Was a busy day full of Dr's appts -My son's check up in the morning and my daughter's checkup for her thyroid in the afternoon. I felt bad that I forgot my son would need to get shots -after I told him he wouldn't -ugh I hate when I make myself out to be a liar -I felt horrible! -so, I let him stay home the rest of the day- well, not exactly home- since we were running around still. Then we all got home -including my husband around the same time -just in time to take a break, eat dinner, and then head out again -they had an information meeting for those like my daughter -going into -8th grade next year - Eeesh -8th grade!!
So, yeah lately it's been a bit of a whirlwind -and I have a feeling it's not ending soon- such as The Mom Mayhem life ;)
Today I think I'll try to catch up on some of my shows and of course gotta get our grocery shopping list together and do that too.

MckLinky Monday -Fav. Crockpot recipe

For today's MckLinky Monday with the RHOK -Mrs. Priss would like some help for her friend Amy and wants to know your favorite crock pot recipe...

Well, although I know there are many things you can make with the crock pot -I'm a bit old fashioned especially this time of year I love to make stews and soups -So, that's pretty much what I make.

Here's a good and easy stew recipe from my Gma:
Ingredients: Ground Beef (about 1 lb)
Potatoes - cubed
Carrots - sliced (potatoes and carrots about 1 per person)
2 cans French Onion Soup (Campbell's optional)

Brown meat; Then add all ingredients into crock pot -cook until veg. are done -you may actually want to have the veg. cooking for awhile before you add the meat -it can take several hours to get the veg. to cook well. Especially yummy if served with cornbread :)

Wordy/Wordless Wednesday -5 yr.old Birthday party

My son turned 5 last week and I thought it would be great to celebrate it the same way we celebrated my daughter's 5th Birthday -at Chuck E. Cheese! -The top pictures are from my daughter's birthday party there -a few years ago and the bottom pics are from my son's birthday party there Saturday!

I figure it's a milestone birthday and instead of a small family party we usually have -we can invite some of his classmates seeing as how he's in school now and have a birthday bash at Chuck E. Cheese! And it's kind of cool that both of my kids had their 5th birthday parties there :) It's funny how some things are still the same and some are different. The party room used to be sectioned off more and it used to be a paper birthday crown- now they have a fancy blowup crown (you can see where Chuck E -crowned my son) and the crown even holds extra tokens for the birthday kid! They also take the birthday kid into the "ticket blaster" now -my son was not sure about that. I love how they have a designated host to help with the party and of course as always it was a great time- the kids had fun- it was a great birthday party!

Whew -This past week has been busy! I haven't been as active on the blogs lately - Sorry if you missed me ;) - So, what all has been going on here you say? Here's some pics to give you an idea:
So, the kids finally went back to school last week -(And it was the kind of week where it seemed I spent more time at my son's school than at home) - They had the class Valentine's Party, I brought cupcakes and juice drinks to my son's class for his B-day, attended the student of the month assembly -Yay to him for being 1 of the kids to get this honor! , Oh and we also had a parent teacher conference-which went fine. And speaking of his birthday -of course we had a birthday party for him -at Chuck E. Cheese (more about that tomorrow :) And of course some of the in-laws came in to town for the party -Which means we had house guests over the weekend -My BIL and his fiance left after the party; my SIL and her boyfriend just left yesterday. We went to the zoo Sunday and have been out and about a lot with them -Glad to hopefully be getting back to normal! Oh and the bad news -my hubby's car went kaput! We got it towed and looked at but, it will be really expensive to fix -so, we're just going to look at a "new"/used car -soon -For now my husband will have to bum rides to work. So, yeah that's what all has been going on here -Like I said -Whew!!

MckLinky Monday -Trips on a tankful

With Spring Break coming up Mrs. Montgomery from the RHOK asks -"What's some places to visit a few hours from your home?"

Well, as most of you know I live in Tulsa,OK and there are quite a few great things here in Tulsa. With that being said there are quite a few good places to visit not too far away as well -Here's not just 1 idea but, a few...

Going South and East about an hour away is Muskogee,Ok -in fact Muskogee has been named 1 of 12 distinctive destinations -you can even vote to make it number 1 until March 15,2011

I always like to visit Honor Heights park there's also the 5 Civilized Tribes Museum nearby among other attractions.

Another idea is taking a trip down historic Route 66 -You could go East or West -If you go west there's a popular restaurant you might've heard about POPS also near there you can also see Arcadia's Round Barn
And last but not least going even further west about 3-4 hours away is Lawton, Ok - 1 of the main attractions there is the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge where you can see buffalo, hike the mountains,-etc. There's also the historic Mattie Beal Home you can visit.

So, there you have it some fun trips on a tankful in Oklahoma :)

MckLinky Monday - Celebrating Valentine's Day

Today on the RHOK Mrs. Bundy wants to know -"How do you celebrate Valentine's Day?" Depending on what day it falls on - generally the hubby and I celebrate the weekend before -like this past weekend...

Once the babysitter (my sis) and pizza got here -The hubby and I went out. I think everyone was ready to get out of the house because we battled traffic- oh -and we also battled Snirt:

But we finally made it to our destination: Even though it was pretty busy we got there early enough that we only had to wait about 20 minutes -and then Mmmm - as always yummy food! They did make a minor mistake that our main meals came before our soup and salad -they were very apologetic and even offered us a free dessert -which we did take up their offer ;) Generally when we have a date night we eat and see a movie or something - There wasn't a lot of movies that we agreed to watch -but we did decide to see The King's Speech -But, 1st we had a little time before the movie was to start -so, we stopped here: We needed to pick up a few things and I picked out a few little Valentine presents for the kids as well. Then we watched the movie -I had previously made my case that it seems everyone says it's a good movie and it is Oscar nominated -etc. -Which it was a pretty good movie! Then we made it back home. Even though it was about 10pm the kids were still awake- we got them settled in, talked with my sis a little bit, and caught some of SNL before she left and then we headed to bed ourselves. The following day -Sunday (yesterday) I went ahead and gave the kids their Valentine gifts/candy -and we had fun sharing the conversation hearts and getting cards ready for my son's Valentine's party at school today. Wordless Wednesday - Snowday Entertainment

As mentioned before it's Snowklahoma around here -The kids have been out of school for over a week now! Cabin fever has set in even though we did make it out the other day - Sure, we've been keeping busy -playing in the snow, playing games /lots of Wii time (I think I'm getting Wii elbow ;), watching tv/movies -etc. - But, still ~~torturing~~ playing with our cat sure is some fun snowday entertainment too =D

MckLinky Monday - 5 pet peeves

For today's MckLinky with the RHOK Mrs. Coco is sharing some pet peeves -and asks -"What's 5 pet peeves of yours?" ...

1st -Right now I have to say -SNOW! -Whew-just had to get that off my chest! -The kids are once again out of school -have been for about a week -and with more snow expected soon -not sure when they'll go back!

2. You know a lot of "little" things don't bother me so much -It's mostly character issues that bother me -Like : Rude people! I think if someone is making an effort to be courteous you should do the same.

3. I also think that a lot of issues stems from another problem -Lack of communication! I'm sure most of us have experienced frustration out of lack of communication -whether it's from a personal relationship or more of a business relationship. Oh and another thing to add to this is -communication is a 2 way street -talking AND listening.

4. Say what you mean and mean what you say - Along the same lines as communication -I know it can be kind of tricky sometimes though -Sure, there are times to sugar coat somewhat and not be straight out rude - but, say what you need to say as diplomatically as possible is all.

5. Ok so, about the only other thing -Non snow and communication related that peeves me is... Not having light! - Let me explain - I feel our house is kinda dark -During the day I open the shades and turn on a few lights -Other people that live in this house would probably sit "in the dark" all day -not open shades/ turn on lights - I only have it "dark" when we're watching a movie (sometimes) or going to sleep - and that's it.

How was your Groundhog Day?

Groundhog Day - I know for me it brings to mind a couple of images:

Yep the Groundhog that either sees his shadow or not and Groundhog Day -The movie. Well, let me tell you that I am so thankful that the groundhog Punxsutawny Phil did not see his shadow! Because it's been Snowklahoma around here and actually the big snow storm has hit about 30 states -So, our Groundhog Day went something like this:

Which is kind of fitting for Groundhog day because this week reminds me of a couple weeks ago -Can we say 2nd verse same as the 1st! I mean really a couple of weeks ago we were going along with our normal schedule -excited to learn that my son would get an award Friday at the school assembly -until -Boom -Snow hit and school was cancelled! Now this week granted we've had a lot more snow -like a record breaking 14 inches of snow! -But, we've been at home for days now and school is officially cancelled for the rest of the week -and the reschedule of the assembly will have to be rescheduled! Can someone please stop this Groundhog Day -now?! That is all.

Wordy Wednesday -This old house

This is the childhood home I mostly remember -it was the place we lived after "the dust settled" and my dad got custody of me and my sister -We lived there since I was in elementary school until high school. I don't have/can't find a lot of pictures of it -these are some my sister found recently. I remember being sad when we had to move -(I've probably mentioned my dad moved to another town -I then lived with my Gma to stay in the town/school and finish my senior year). As part of senior year English curriculum everyone had to write a paper choosing out of certain topics -The 1 I picked was using the 5 senses to describe something -I wrote about this house -I don't remember the exact words -But, something like- Lounging in the backyard you might hear birds chirping, dogs faintly barking, or a lawnmower roaring in the distance. You might see lights flicker in the house illuminating the family inside. But, all that is gone now as now all I feel is the coldness of the front door closing shut as I say goodbye- (At least that's a short somewhat remembered version)
Anyways -although it held some fond memories -it certainly wasn't anything too special -it was a very small stucco house. The backyard seemed huge as a kid and I played there a lot -with my sister, neighborhood kids, and cats -You might be able to tell we always had a lot of cats around -mostly strays. The top left picture is the back steps going to the backyard -we had laundry on the line a lot -I can't remember how long we didn't have a dryer -but, yeah we didn't have a dryer very much. The bottom pictures show some of the inside. There were some things that needed to be fixed -There were a few spots where the roof/ceiling started to leak -etc. -But, we made the best of what we had -And that's my old childhood home.

MckLinky Monday - 10 things you can't live without

For today's MckLinky Monday Mrs. Edwards is talking about things she can't live without -Besides her family -etc. of course and asks - "What's 10 things you can't live without? " So, here goes...

1. Sleep -I know everyone needs sleep but, seriously I'm the type of person who could sleep 10 hours a day if I had the chance- which is hard because I can be a night owl -it's really hard to get up in the mornings!

2. Shower - I get grumpy if I can't get in the shower soon after I get up -it helps rejuvenate me and there's nothing quite like a nice warm shower -Ahhh

3. Contacts - I've worn glasses before and if you've seen the pictures of me wearing glasses you'd understand that -1st those pictures should be burned! and 2nd I look better in contacts -besides glasses start to bug me after awhile.

4. Secret Weapon -No, I'm not some kind of super spy -I'm talking about this:My hair can get quite frizzy and this helps tame the frizz -I'm open to other options but this is 1 of the cheapest/easiest options I've found that works for me.

5. Lint Roller - I can be a freak about lint -Maybe because I live with a dog and cat and kinda paranoid that it shows -I love them just not their fur all over everything -especially clothes I'm wearing out :)

6. Internet -I wouldn't be here without it -And I love being here "chatting" with you all - There's an immense amount of things you can do with the internet -even if I do use it for Facebook, Blogging, YouTube -etc. most of the time.

7. TV - I love TV! - Reality Shows -and not necessarily all the "bad" ones ;) - But, I also love other shows too -Ooh I've been really enjoying the new show- Off the Map (It's by the same lady who writes Grey's Anatomy and is similar -people are saying it's like a Grey's Anatomy of the jungle)

8. DVR -Of course who has time to watch all the shows when they're on - Can't live without the DVR! - And a little bit of trivia knowledge: Ours is actually a homemade PVR system -that my husband built :)

9. Camera -I also love to carry my camera around -You never know when a good shot might come up -But, it's a little sad that my camera has been a hit or miss lately -Probably should get a new 1 soon.

10. Chocolate -Mmm - Yummy but, probably don't need it -Ok -Yes I do! I'm sure there's some study out there that proves we need it -Right? ;)

Doing something different this Friday -Just a little update -So, this week...

Monday started with MLK day -The kids were out of school I didn't have a lot planned except a scheduled Dr's appt./checkup for my son (He's been having a lot of ear infections lately and may need to see an ENT). I got to sleep in some -I was just getting out of the shower when I got an unexpected call- my cousin's wife was in labor -early! So, all day we were on baby watch- she'd been in labor since early in the morning -about 15 hrs. later she gave birth -luckily we were there - I visited for a little while after -since the baby is a preemie he is still in special care (positive thoughts and prayers appreciated! ). I didn't get to see the baby then. Tues. I visited again while the kids were in school and luckily I also got to see the baby for a little bit!

Mostly did our usual routine -except in the evening I attended a planning meeting at my son's school -for bingo night. Wednesday was a pretty normal day -Oh I did find out that my son is 1 of the kids picked for Student of the month! And then of course Wed. night/ Thursday the snow came in -Turned out no school Thursday and today too! Which is ok but, now we'll just have to see when they reschedule the assembly for student of the month -etc.

Some unexpectedness this week -the kids only went to school 2 days and we have a new addition to the family! That's the week so far -How about you?!

Wordless Wednesday - Spy games

While doing some chores over the weekend I shooed the kids away saying "go find something to do!" which usually has 2 results - either after awhile they start fighting or they actually play nice together -Luckily they actually played nicely together - and this is the game they came up with they were "spies" and had to find various "bad guys" (Like Mr. Bad Horse that is pictured ;) Us adults even got more involved after the chores were done by hiding the bad guys. We'd hide the bad guy and come up with a clue if they needed a hint- I didn't get a lot of great pics because the spies didn't want to get caught by the paparazzi too much -But, It was pretty fun! Happy WW!

For today's Mcklinky Monday on the RHOK - Mrs. A is talking about some things she can't do anymore and asks "What are 5 things you can't do anymore?"

Well, here goes ....

1. Play an instrument/ read music - There was a brief time in elementary school I was in the band and I'm not talking a cool rock band ;) Nowadays I might be able to bang out something kinda recognizable on an instrument but, I'm afraid my reading music skillz are gone.

2. Running -eh who am I kidding I've never been much of a runner -but, after having a couple of kids - those kind of activities could lead to wet undergarments/pants - and I'm not talking about sweat - Ewww -I know ;)

3. There's other activities that can cause some LBL -like this:

not too mention "the girls"might put an eye out if I tried something like that ;)

4. Also as Mrs. A mentioned -Skating -(roller or otherwise ) I've never been the best at that kind of thing but, I'm out of practice and old and stuff I'm sure to break an ankle or at the least fall and embarrass myself .

5. Act like spontaneous teenager - Seems I'm reminded often that life after kids just isn't quite the same in many respects like when I was watching a movie the other day (Nick and Norah's infinite playlist -good movie BTW) In teenaged years you never know where'd an evening out on the town would take you - Now if I do get out - I of course gotta make sure someone is watching the kids (and still have guilt) and sure there might be some spontaneity but, not quite the same like "back in the day" .

The Friday Five

It's been awhile since I've done a Friday Five - This will be the 1st 1 of 2011 actually! I don't have any specific topic for today but, did have a few things I wanted to share - So, here's today's RANDOM Friday 5 ...

1st -Around here we have the TV on kid shows a lot -and there's a fairly new show called Shake it Up:

Anyone seen it? So, I'm thinking the red head reminds me of someone and then it hit me...

So, I know on Shake it Up they just dance not sing but, still -Whaddayathink?

2nd -Speaking of kid shows we've been watching House of Anubis on Nick -Well, mostly me and my daughter - Anyone else been watching it? It's full of mystery and is about an American who goes to school in the UK -so, most of them have lovely accents :)

3rd I try to watch Regis and Kelly everyday -Yesterday Kelly had her husband fill in as her co-host and I pretty much love this whole segment:
Ahh the joys of married life and sharing about it on national TV ;)

4th -I know it's soo 2010 but, I love this video - a collaboration of cat videos from 2010 -Sorry Couldn't embed -have to click the link.

5th -Last but, certainly not least is a video of my son doing some "comedy" -Enjoy =D

Wordless Wednesday -1st snow of 2011

So, starting Sunday we got some snow around here -the snow stopped and restarted Monday. I guess it didn't amount to much -Some schools were closed but, not in my immediate area -Boo! I was hoping to ~~sleep in~~ get a snow day at least once this week. But, here's some pics I got -If you can't tell -The 2nd pic on the top was when it starting snowing really big/pretty flakes and I tried to get a pic, the bottom I tried to show the sparkles in the snow, and also got a couple pics of birds with snow in the background. It's still pretty cold but, the snow is melting off some. Hope you have a lovely Wednesday!

The Bachelor -Brad Womack part Deux

So, I just got done watching the latest episode of the Bachelor (have to watch it online the next day). For those of you following (and maybe for some that aren't) know that the Bachelor is Brad Womack -again! As he has explained several times the 1st time he had some issues and wasn't ready to commit -This time he is a changed man and is ready -I think he genuinely means it. Of course they keep alluding to in the end will the woman be ready this time? As always it's such a roller coaster!

The last episode had some great dates- the private carnival and the pampering/getting a private concert by Train -awesome dates! And the not so awesome group date -15 women all vying for Brad's attention-Yikes! This among other things is causing drama among the ladies - and the 2 ladies that were fighting at the rose ceremony -got the boot -I guess Brad didn't want any of that! The 3rd lady that got the boot Keltie -I felt so bad for her- she said she's gone through so many dating attempts and can't seem to find the right guy-(a side note you never know when the right time and person will come along -usually when you least expect it ;)

Definitely some interesting characters left -Madison AKA the woman with the fangs, Michelle -who is of course very attractive and I think the women nailed it -is probably used to getting what she wants -she also has a little girl, Emily who also has a little girl and a heartbreaking story -she had a couple of opportunities to tell Brad about her daughter and past -hopefully next episode?, There's also the 2 Ashleys -1 who got the very 1st impression rose and the other got the very 1st 1 on 1 date (the private carnival), And so many other great and interesting women! Of course the claws are coming out though - Can't wait to see what all else happens! Are you watching? What do you think?

Wednesday with pics -Our old apartment

I was saddened to read that our old apartment complex we used to live in has pretty much been condemned -Read more about that here. It definitely wasn't like that when we lived there -sure it wasn't the best place to live -But, it was alright especially when we had a good apt. manager who tried to keep the riff raff out and it was being kept up with. Since I partially grew up in Tulsa I've lived a few places around town -But, this was the 1st place we lived on our own as a family in Tulsa -so, it held a lot of memories. At the time we thought it was pretty good -for those that live around here you might remember Eastland Mall that was next to it -We also had a Target and Toys R US around there -Of course it isn't a mall now and I think only Toys R Us is left over there. We had a pretty good place -it was a townhouse with the living room, half bath, and kitchen downstairs -and then upstairs there was another full bathroom and the 2 bedrooms. We were also on the corner so, only 1 neighbor on the other side -which we had good neighbors -a couple who eventually had a couple kids-twins actually. Sure there were a few bad times like getting robbed once and the car broken into a couple of times -It started to go downhill before we left -I remember once looking out the window to see police officers poking around or going after someone? It took awhile for us to get out and be able to buy our own home -glad we did -But, it's still sad to know what it once was like to what it is now. Sorry, for the reminiscing -I'm sure I'll do that on here more. A lot of the pictures I found were around Christmas time -Which seems pretty fitting since Christmas just passed - So, there you have it.

MckLinky Monday - Celebrating the New Year

For today's MckLinky Monday on the RHOK Miss Priss wants to know - How do you celebrate/ring in the New Year? ... Well, I also say leave it to the crazies to go out and par-tay -I also pretty much hang out at home and try to stay awake until midnight -Sometimes I actually make it ;) I can't say that we have a mini party -the kids are usually asleep -So, me and the hubby try to stay awake -This time I did! I flipped channels and watched a little of the different celebrations going on -I got Jiggy or rather Giggy with it and watched Bravo's wig drop, NBC's /Tulsa's Ball Drop, Fox's celebration, and a little bit of Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years eve celebration on ABC (my ABC comes in fuzzy -but, I did see NKOTB!) I also passed some time by reflecting back on 2010 and watching different things - like this:

We don't have anything too specfic we do New Years day - This year my mom wanted all of us gals (me, my daughter, sister, grandma, and my mom of course) -to go see the Bodies exhibit -No photography allowed so, no pics to share (Which might be good if you'd rather not see that kind of thing -like my husband he didn't so, he stayed home with my son) -It was pretty interesting though. One thing we do for sure on New Years is eat some "luck foods" like Black eyed peas - I was looking for a good/easy recipe when I found 1 for Black Eyed Pea Casserole -so, I made that for dinner:

It was yummy -And easy to make! Just cooked the rice and hamburger meat- then put them in a casserole dish with canned black eyed peas and Rotel; after it cooked for awhile I topped it with cheese and put it back in the oven for a few minutes (about 30 minutes total cook time) And Voila! Ghosts of Christmas Past

So, there's something else that happened over our Christmas break ...
There must be something weird in the air -Because not only was I visited by "ghosts of Christmas past" but, my sister was too - Allow me to explain ... I'm sure we all have people from our past that we don't talk to anymore -some on purpose. This always makes me a little nervous and cautious about things like having this blog ;being on facebook -etc. There are plenty of people from my past I do keep in touch with -That I went to school with or worked with -But, like I said there's others I'd rather not. Of course I also know they're out there and the whole -6 degrees of seperation and all. But, it was really weird that within 24hrs -and a couple days before Christmas I got not 1 but, 2 Facebook friend requests that I was unsure about. Being sick I thought maybe I was hallucinating or -this is it -I'm sick and gonna die and this is some kind of judgement- I was taken aback needless to say. I took a little while to think about it -I already ignored 1. The other I thought would happen eventually - And I haven't gotten into the whole story on here yet -But, I figured sometime I'd be contacted by my daughter's biological dad or his family -It was his mom. I talked to my husband, dad, and sister about it and I finally sent her a message (it's great being able to send a message to a non-friend) -I tried to be somewhat friendly but, also stern -I mean how else are you supposed to act towards someone who hasn't been involved for over 10 years?! As of yet I haven't heard back -the ball is in their court as they say -So, we'll see. And then the day after Christmas my sister was contacted by an ex of hers-Like I say -it's weird! So, yep seems to be the Christmas for ghosts of the past or something!

Not quite Wordless Wednesday -Our Christmas 2010

Well, our Christmas break started last week and my son and I both are fighting off sickness -my son started to complain about his ear so got it checked out and yep -ear infection (he's had quite a few lately-hopefully he won't need tubes). And I finally went in to the Dr. Christmas eve - I've got a sinus infection -Ugh. Especially being sick I was glad my Gma decided to host Christmas dinner. But, of course before that Christmas morning was at my house- my mom, dad, and sister came over. I had a few noshables out -a bagel platter and sandwich platter -etc. that I won from Schlotzsky's well actually from 918 moms -glad it held up since I picked it up Christmas eve-it worked out well. Once everyone got settled -we opened up presents -If you can't tell my son really like the Iron man arm thing and Woody from Toy Story ;My daughter like the Disney Sing It and other gifts she got as well. Then of course we all hung out for awhile until we got ready and headed to my Gma's for Christmas dinner and a bit more presents. Everything went pretty well -I was glad to get home and rest though- which been trying to rest and get better since then. Glad I am feeling a bit better and the kids are enjoying their new toys and everything - And that's our Christmas :)

MckLinky Monday -Christmas Traditions

For today's MckLinky Monday on the RHOK Mrs. Montgomery wants to know our holiday/ Christmas traditions - Well, each year it seems we're always trying to balance all the families -My mom's side, dad's side, in -law's side -And we kind of alternate Thanksgiving and Christmas between them all So, each year it's a little different. One of the things we always seem to do sometime around the holidays is see some holiday lights though. Used to be that we'd take a trip to see my paternal Gma if not on Christmas itself (while visiting my dad's side ) then sometime around the holiday to see her, friends, and the light display in Muskogee (Garden of Lights and The Christmas Kingdom) -This is the 1st Christmas she hasn't been with us though -so, we didn't see those lights this year. But, we usually see a few light displays like Rhema -etc. This year we drove to see the Chandler Park Christmas lights and also walked around Rhema -Rhema we've done for the past few years -so, that seems to be our new Christmas light tradition -Of course I'm always up to see other displays too :) How about you -What are your holiday traditions? MckLinky Monday -Ornaments

For today's MckLinky with the RHOK Mrs. Bundy wants to see our favorite Christmas tree ornaments...Well, I can't show just one -So, here's a few - We pretty much have a mix of about everything -homemade ornaments, store bought ones, fancy ones, to kid -cartoon character ones. And even though they're all different kinds and colors I do have somewhat of a traditional theme of gold, red, and green.

About the ones that are shown -the top left - A gold light up ornament from the light display in my hometown/neighborhood of Muskogee -The Garden of Lights (I even remember when they 1st started that display), the bottom left -a homemade one and a penguin -gotta have a penguin! (per my huband ;), The top right- a red bulb and a character my daughter loves -Hello Kitty (guess I need to work on more boy ornaments for my son), and the edge of a snowflake, the bottom right -a gold angel -I just love the little pose it's in -hangin' out in the tree. MckLinky Monday - Christmas Dish

Today on the RHOK Mrs. Coco is making us drool talking about Christmas food - and asks "What is your favorite Christmas dinner dish?"

Well, 1st I do love just about any kind of food ;) And I love how there's all kinds of great snacks around Christmastime from homemade Chex mix, to christmas chocolates, and candy canes filling up the stockings

But, back to the question - I also love all the Christmas dinner food -similar to Thanksgiving -I love green bean casserole and if I need to make/ bring something that's what I usually make:

I pretty much use the Campbell's recipe using frozen/thawed green beans and the french cut style at that.

This year I thought I was going to have to really get the cooking juices flowing because I thought the cooking/hosting duties would fall to me - seeing as how my paternal gma passed away earlier this year and my maternal gma hasn't been getting around too well -But, after talking with my gma the other day she said she's feeling better and wants to host Christmas dinner at her place - which is kind of a relief for me -but, I know I should be gathering and preparing more recipes for when I will have to host (we've only done it once before) So, looking forward to other people's Christmas favorites - What's yours? Kinda WW - our Christmas trees past and present

We've only had 2 Christmas trees - When we were in an apt. I wanted to get 1 so bad but, we couldn't really afford much -so, when I saw a tree for sale ($20 at Target) we went around to a couple of Targets until we found 1. I was so excited to finally have a Christmas tree even if it was a little Charlie Brownish. Later when we got our cat -He'd play around and knock down the tree -as you can tell he was sitting pretty proud of his accomplishment ;)
Then when we moved into our house I knew we needed a nice big tree -I was glad to find another good deal (less than $100) and we've been using that tree since. It's gotten a little battered over the years- and we might have to get another 1 eventually -I'm not too sure about the new trees that all seem to be pre-lit and all ? Eh- Our tree is working out fine for now -the cat now likes to lay under it and occasionally knock a couple of ornaments down -but, not the tree ;)

Not really wordless wednesday - our Thanksgiving

So, I know some of you are waiting to hear how Thanksgiving at my in-law's went -Well, it actually went ok. Sure, when we got there my husband had to be his usual mediator self -His, mom was complaining about how people won't help (which I think is somewhat true -but, I also think like most of us women when people do help we still get frustrated because it's not how we do it ) Anyways I know people helped clean before we got there and then my husband and other people helped with some yardwork. Like I've mentioned before my MIL had 7 kids -grown now -but, 3 still live there -there's also my sister in law's live in boyfriend, and my MIL is also pretty much raising her 1 grandson (which if provoked I would surely point out to his dad-the BIL that is always negative towards people.) I guess there is some tension about that whole situation -almost in a sibling rivalry kind of way for some. Anyways so, we all pitched in -we also put up a Christmas tree-etc. For Thanksgiving we all sat down and had a good dinner (as shown above) -the pic is missing a few people (me who took the picture,my SIL, and her boyfriend- who ate in the living room because the table was getting cramped-12 in all) Finally met the girlfriend of the 1 BIL -she seems pretty nice. Everyone is so grown up now with girlfriends and boyfriends and jobs and everything! Friday morning we had an early Christmas mostly for the kids. Later in the day I was ready to get out for a bit -we headed to a park- suprisingly the 1 BIL went with us and his son- so the cousins could play together. And then Saturday we headed home. So, no big fights this time -I guess there will always be some tension and there was possibly some passive agressiveness - with that many people -bathroom time can get kinda crazy -I was gathering my stuff to go shower when the "negative"BIL snuck in before me -not sure if it was intentional or not-Hmmm... And there was the usual noisy chaos and people shouting expletives here and there -and my 1 BIL did make a few negative remarks here and there -So, yep pretty much typical -But, that was our Thanksgiving!

MckLinky Monday - Christmas Decor

The holiday season is upon us and Mrs. Edwards on the RHOK wants to know - "When do you drag out the Christmas decor?"

Well, I say as early as possible! But, my husband thinks it has to be after Thanksgiving so, normally I'm ready after we eat our Thanksgiving dinner or ok maybe the day after Thanksgiving or so ;) This year I thought we might get the Christmas stuff out before Thanksgiving being that we were out of town for a few days for Thanksgiving -but, we didn't get around to it before. And then I thought we might get to it when we got back home Saturday but, after unpacking and other things we didn't -Finally we just got the Christmas stuff out and the Christmas tree up and decorated yesterday! Still have other decorations to put up though -So, still getting around to it all. I love Christmas and decorating for Christmas but, whew it can get kinda exhausting! -and is it me but, can it cause some tension? -It seems inevitably I'm telling my husband to move the tree topper this way and then no,no back that way a little and then he gets frustrated and then I get frustrated, then I grab my step ladder but, still can't reach and then I fall or get some other kind of boo-boo -Yeah that might've happened yesterday- Ugh the mom mayhem ;)

I know it's a little early but, I'm sure most of us are going to be pretty busy the next few days- So, just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving / Weekend!

Well, Thanksgiving will be in just a couple of days -and we're going to my in-law's. So we'll miss out on my side of the family's ~~craziness~~ fun. But,the truth is I never know how it will go at the in-law's either... After 10+ years of marriage I have adjusted somewhat - But, let me set the scene of how it has been -Used to be that my in-laws smoked -Oh and my MIL had 7 kids (mostly boys) So, at 1 point it was like walking into some kind of crazy smoked filled bar -with the inevitable boys wrestling around over there and someone else screaming expletives about something else over there. Not saying I came from a perfect; quiet family but, still it's a little shock to the system for me. Luckily things are a bit different now - sure there's still quite a few people and it can get LOUD -at least I can stand to stay there being a smoke free house now -The only person that still smokes (outside) is my 1 BIL - And that BIL is a whole other story...
I just hope it's not like the last Thanksgiving we were there (2 years ago) when that particular BIL and me got into it - well, actually him and a few people. He's the type who is negative about most things and people -including me. As I was saying before their family takes a little adjustment for me- I can be kind of quiet/reserved sometimes which is different for them- I guess. Anyways I guess there's been some tension there with that BIL -he often makes remarks about people being lazy -etc. me included because I'm a stay at home mom-yada,yada. I try not take things personally but, I guess he represents that type of people -so, we got into it. I was actually kind of proud to stand up for myself -And like I told him like he has a lot of room to talk -this coming from a guy who the 1st time I met him was when he was in prison -I mean seriously-Urgh! So, yeah that was an interesting Thanksgiving -he made the other sis-in law cry, me and other people mad, which in turn also made my Mother in law upset. Well, here's hoping things don't end up like that again -(hopefully) Happy Thanksgiving!

MckLinky Monday -Black Friday

Well -The short answer is -Sleep! =D
I know, I know I do love a good deal - But, I'm just not sure getting up early in the morning (like 3- 4AM!) and going out to fight the crowds and quite possibly literally get trampled on is worth it to me. I'm sure I could come up with some convincing evidence of why Black Friday is not the best idea- If your so inclined-( ahem and ahem ;)
You know I never even really knew about this Black Friday concept until I got married and my mother in law went out into the Black Fridayness -Needless to say I was a bit shocked at this tradition! ;) And my husband (the early riser of the house) has gone out on Black Friday and grabbed some deals a couple of times for us -But, nah not really for me -is all I have to say ;) -But, if it's for you - ahh- Have Fun!

So, I've been thinking about starting a confession thing maybe something like -The truth is Tuesday -Not sure if it will be a regular thing yet -But, trying it out -so,here goes....

As a lot of you know blogging is a lot of things to me -some admittedly cathartic even though I'm sure we all question how much we should put -out there. I've been a bit quiet lately- Some because I've been kinda busy and some because I've got a lot swirling around in my head. I've been thinking a lot about where things are going -The future of me -in many aspects of the word. I know we could use more money (especially around the holidays) -but, Ugh -such a catch 22 -I've been in the "working world" before -and not sure how I feel about going back to that goat rodeo. I've been trying to see about some kind of work -at- home job (why I do Examiner) and have pursued other jobs but, no such luck so far. My daughter of course is in school during the day and now my son is too (since the past few months) -Leaving me a stay-at -home mom with no kids during the day (With the exception of school breaks;taking care of sick kids -etc.) I do enjoy being able to help at school with the PTA-etc. And having a flexible schedule/ more me time -but, I know I should probably do something else -especially to bring in money -Just haven't figured out what yet - I guess for now I'll look into selling my body -fluid -(I'm talking plasma -people! ;)

And for anyone who's read this -Sorry for the rambling but, feel free to send me positive thoughts and prayers please -And I'll try to keep my head up:

For today's MckLinky with the RHOK - Mrs. Hart and others share what they're thankful for and ask - "What are you thankful for?"

Well, as the picture suggests I am thankful for my - Faith, Family, and Friends. I am thankful for my family and that for the most part we're pretty healthy -and I thank god for that! I also am glad for friends -family is family -but, friends are like family that you can pick out -Right?! ;)

I know there are other things -like Mrs. Hart mentioned there's many things we are grateful for and may not even think about. And even though my family and I may struggle at times I am thankful for all that we do have...

MckLinky Monday -Thankful for food

Today on the RHOK they're talking about Thanksgiving and ask - "What is your favorite food on the Thanksgiving table?"

Well, I pretty much love all food -especially Thanksgiving food! It's hard to pick favorites!

I do love me some sweet potatoes -My dad usually made a sweet potato casserole with mashed sweet potatoes and marshmallows on top that was really yummy! I also like other variations of sweet potatoes -etc. just fine as well though.

I also like cranberry sauce -I'm ok with different variations of that too - even if it comes from a can ;)

1 of my favorite dishes to make and eat is green bean casserole -I just use the Campbell's recipe -with frozen/thawed green beans and use my mother in law's tip of using french cut style green beans -if I find them easily.

Of course there's all the other great food like-stuffing! Which I think not all stuffing is created equal -Shh! Don't tell but, I don't really like my MIL's -she makes it in the Turkey -Ugh. I like my grandma's the best -I think it's a cornbread dressing -I even like Stove Top stuffing ok. And of course don't forget the turkey -with a little gravy -yum! You see I pretty much like it all ;)

Wordless Wednesday - Halloween fun

Well, the Halloween fun is over now - Been a busy past few weekends! ...
As seen in the top left picture we went to my husband's company fall festival a couple weekends ago. This past weekend of course was Halloween weekend. We spent a lot of the day Saturday at my sister's/ Boo HaHa. We parked at her place - Then we walked Brookside (Where my family got a picture with Julie Chin -dressed as Dorothy :) We stayed and watched the parade also -The 1st time we've done that.
And then of course Sunday evening we Trick-or Treated around the neighborhood -and that was our Halloween fun! -How about you?

MckLinky Monday -Family History

Today on the RHOK -We're talking family histories -And want know about yours...

For me -as my dad always says -I'm a Heinz 57 -I got a little bit of a lot of things ;) I believe I've got some Irish,French,German, and Indian (card carrying Cherokee -In fact :)

On my paternal side my Grandpa and his family were known pretty well in early Muskogee days. My Grandma -was an only child;her mother(my great-grandma) owned a big house in Muskogee in which she would rent out rooms sometimes. My Grandma was pretty interested in genealogy and I know she passed down a lot of research/papers to my dad and uncles. Unfortunately I'm drawing a blank on a lot of that -I know there were a few unsavory characters though ;)

On my maternal side -I'm a little fuzzy on my Grandpa and his family -(He died when my mom was pregnant with me-BTW) I do know that is where I get my Cherokee though. My Grandma however has told a lot of stories about growing up during the great depression and how her and her big family of brothers and sisters helped worked the family's farm in rural Oklahoma. I even remember going out that way to visit family -including my great grandmother before she passed away.

Beyond that -I'm not exactly sure where I get all of my "flavors".

The Friday Five -Halloween movie edition

Last week I talked about scary movies -and how I don't really like them. But, that's not to say I don't like some Halloween type movies -In fact -Here's my Top 5 movie choices for Halloween time:

Wordless Wednesday -Mr. Scarface

When we went to the pumpkin patch -it was a kinda hard to find a"perfect" pumpkin -I finally gave in to "Mr. Scarface" here and took him home. This past weekend (Sunday) was a great day to be outside for awhile and do our annual carving of the pumpkin. We all chipped in -My husband did most of the carving-at 1st my son just colored on the scrap newspaper (and yes he was in last year's Christmas PJ outfit ;) And then we all took turns getting the goop out -our dog and cat were even outside with us - And now we have our Halloween Jack-o-latern! :)

The Talk vs. The View

Anyone else been keeping up with these shows?

So, I've been a loyal fan of The View since it started (14 seasons ago) and when I started seeing commercials for The Talk - I admit I was a bit skeptical -Like oh these broads are trying to be like them. I decided to check The Talk out though and it's been on for a little over a week now...

And I have to say -I like The Talk! They ARE similar to The View- I'd say that The Talk focuses more on parenting issues and The View focuses more on celebs,politics, and other "Hot Topics" though. I like how the co-hosts on The Talk got acquainted not only amongst themselves but to the viewers as well -Sharing their pregnancy;birth stories,and backgrounds. Of course all the ladies are great - and it's nice to see them outside of the other various things/shows they've been on. It's a good mix- even if Leah Remini is LOUD sometimes -Ha -Just kidding(kinda ;) -All of them are lovely though! I like that as they say they're a support system of sorts - as they mention coming from Sara Gilbert's idea after being in a mom's group after her 2nd kid. And as I've mentioned before- it was tough for me becoming a stay-at home mom after my 2nd kid -and partly why I started this blog and am glad for the community I get from it. So, I get the concept! Of course I'm still a fan of The View -I love all the ladies on there too! So, where does this leave me?! Well, apparently with another show added to my DVR -Just what I need-Right?! ;)

MckLinky Monday - Worst Job

For today's MckLinky Monday with the RHOK -Mrs. Albright -Wants to know - "What's your worst job experience?"

Well, we all know that parenting is 1 of the hardest jobs(Mom Mayhem anyone ;) But, as far as jobs I actually got paid for... You know I was just reviewing my resume' the other day -Thinking about jobs I've had -and what future jobs I might have...
I started out in food service/a waitress,been a file clerk (at the hospital where my daughter was born), and also in "teleservices" -1st as a telemarketer, then a customer service rep. I can't necessarily say 1 was worse than another- each had ups and downs.
Some people might think being a telemarketer is a bad job- I definitely didn't like the pressure for -Sales,Sales,Sales! And I really hated when they cracked down on quota -people with families in jeopardy of losing their jobs even if they were in the top sales the week before. I got so frustrated about all the changes -I even wrote a letter to corporate -maybe I shouldn't have signed my name -Got me fired (probably 1 of the few people you've heard of that got fired over a letter-Eh? ;) But, even then I wouldn't say it was the worst.
It seems any job dealing the public is like a box of chocolates -You never know what you're gonna get! As a waitress I might get a nice customer,an angry customer, or a sleazy guy that hit on me ; As a customer service rep. I might get a nice customer,an angry customer, or a sleazy guy calling in to order an "adult" channel and/or hit on me (Why must there always be a sleazy guy?!) Not only do you deal with customers, but also coworkers;bosses -and we know jobs can be a minefield of political B.S. -And I've had some doozys! Good bosses vs. bad bosses can make a lot of difference! For instance my CSR job (at DTV) -I went through a lot of bosses -some ok -some not -I was even subjected to racism -kinda weird seeing as how I'm white -But, I believe there was some reverse racism that I was a victim of and other coworkers -by the same person. Luckily after talking with the manager I got to switch supervisors. Not much was done to the supervisor-he even later became a manager -I heard after I left he eventually did get fired after more complaints though. Of course that's not to say I was always the best employee -I've never been too excited to stay long after my shift,willingly sign up for overtime, or gladly work holidays -Even though I had to do all of the above at times. But, back to jobs so- Yeah I'd say any job dealing with a bad boss and the public makes for a pretty bi-polar job! Many stories to tell -again my CSR job- going from customers that are crying,to feeling like a super hero that saved the customer's day, to getting cussed out - all in a day's work ;) And to think now that the kids are in school -I'm thinking about going back to this world! What I really need is a job that has a good boss,good schedule M-F (maybe 10am-2pm) flexible when needed, oh and good pay would be nice too -If you know anything like that let me know ;)

Sorry for the long post -I could probably go on about fat cat CEO's and their golden parachutes -and their affect on the economy. (Why I love things like Undercover boss - I hope things like that do make changes for the better-and not just in their P.R. persona- Ok I shut-up now ;)

Wordless Wednesday -Pumpkin Patch Fun

As I mentioned yesterday over the weekend we had visitors and we all went to the pumpkin patch. Usually we stop at a nearby church that has a pumpkin patch but, I've been wanting to go to a "real" pumpkin patch. So, off to Carmichael's Pumpkin Patch we went! It was the 1st time we've been and I love how it's a genuine country pumpkin patch! With all kinds of activities like a cane maze,animals to feed/see,yummy fudge to eat, and of course lots and lots of pumpkins -It was a fun day!

A little update

Whew -What a busy past few days!
Last Friday I ended up having to take my son to the Dr. -as supected he had an ear infection -got him medicine and he rested most of the day Friday. Luckily my husband was able to take off work -since we had a guy out to fix our garage while I took my son to the Dr. The garage got fixed- over $200 later -just when we're getting back ahead seems something else needs to be fixed -Ugh. Oh well glad everything/everyone got fixed up.
We also got everything ready for my hubby's brother,sister, and her boyfriend to come in from out of town -they all stayed at our house. They got here Saturday around noon and just left yesterday afternoon! We spent a lot of time going out and about -keeping everyone entertained-etc. Went to a pumpkin patch,out shopping,the zoo-etc. We ate dinner out once at 1 of our favorite places -Casa Bonita -I even had some coupons to use - tried not to spend too much $ - We have a zoo membership so it doesn't cost us each time to go-etc. It was a little weird getting the kids off to school Monday and then hanging out with everyone some more. We did also end up eating lunch out with them Monday before they left -I wasn't sure if they were going to leave before or after lunch. It was a nice visit -just glad to be getting back to our normal schedule. Well, somewhat normal now Fall Break is coming up and more plans for the next few weekends -pretty busy lately! Well, I admit when it comes to scary movies I'm a chicken -I try to avoid them and haven't seen 1 in quite awhile I guess that's why some of the 1st ones that come to mind that I've seen are older ones like...
The Birds:

From Alfred Hitchcock -I find him kinda fascinating maybe because we have the same birthday-albeit quite a few years difference (he died soon after I was born.) Something else that's cool about Alfred Hitchcock is that of course he's a master at suspense/scary/thriller films -But, also has a witty sense of humor as often seen in Alfred Hitchcock Presents:

For today's Friday Five I want to mention 5 things -some I might've mentioned before -But,If you missed it -worth a 2nd look kind of thing - So, here goes:

1. A few weeks ago I mentioned the hilarious Mompetition videos - Well, I guess they are getting really viral - Since then -there's even been an article in Time magazine about them!

2. You might've noticed a new widget on my blog -Kids Eat Free -over --> that way somewhere. I'm sure a lot of you are like me and love a good deal like kids eat free -etc. -In fact...

3. Besides that widget my latest frugal family Examiner article offers some Kids Eat free deals for October!

4. As we all know Halloween is coming soon! -I also have a few Examiner articles about fall fun/pumpkin patches, Free pumpkin carving stencils,Halloween crafts, -etc and probably some more coming up soon -I highlight a lot of that on my Facebook page -Check it out if you haven't already- Thanks!

5. Do you love candles? Glade candles? If you do -you should check out the design contest they're having -You can design a candle and the winning design gets $$! It took me a little while to get the hang of it -But, luckily you get a few chances per scent -I've made a few -I think these are some of my best ones- this,this, and this - Which 1 do you like the best? -Feel free to vote for me ;)

Well, that's about it for now -a lot of stuff to do around here -Our garage door is broken -have to get a person out to fix it (hoping it's not too expensive.) Also need to clean/get ready for some visitors -My sister and brother-in law are visiting for the weekend -I hope everything goes ok.

We had Spaghetti Tacos a few weeks ago but, I totally forgot that I was going to post about it until last week when it was everywhere that -Spaghetti tacos are sweeping the nation . Yep, even when I was watching Regis and Kelly last week I think it was this NY Times article they mentioned about spaghetti tacos. I have to say they were pretty good -not something we'll have all the time but, the kids had fun trying an iCarly inspired dinner :)

MckLinky Monday -Favorite John Hughes Film

For today's MckLinky Monday with the RHOK -the ladies are talking about John Hughes' films and want to know -" What's your favorite John Hughes film?" And- "Why?"

Well, there are a lot of good ones! But, I feel that I should make a confession -I should probably have a John Hughes film marathon because a lot of them I remember bits and pieces but,enough to get the gist of them. -So, what would be my favorite? As far as the 80's classics -I'd have to say...
- The Breakfast Club. I pretty much love the point of the film that we all have preconceived notions about each other and a lot of times we may not be in the same group or "know" each other -But, if you take the time to get to know someone individually then your perception might change and sure we all have our own issues /baggage as well. I guess I can relate -not that I bonded with people at a Saturday detention class but, there was the 1 summer I had to go to summer school- a lot of us kinda knew each other and it was nice to know each other away from our usual groups and somewhat bond even if it was over our common enemy known as Algebra ;)

Oh I also have to say I love Home Alone -I pretty much LOL at all the booby traps he made for the would-be burglars - So, I have to show some of that too:

The Friday Five

Ocassionally I watch things on the History channel (shout out to the American Pickers and Pawn Stars ;) it's not that I sit down and watch them every time it's on or even set it to record -they usually show reruns a lot so just whenever I catch it on. But, that's not exactly what I'm talking about today -also on the History channel -sometimes I do record specials- and depending -they're a hit or miss -Well, this 1 was a hit -How the states got their shapes-It was pretty interesting! Here's 5 things I learned that are pretty cool:

1. Derby Line, Vermont -Lies on the border of Canada and the U.S. -They've recently had a bit of a border change/increase in security -trying to control the border - Luckily for people they can cross the border if they happen to be in the Haskell Free Library and Opera House which has a black line running through it -part of it being in Canada and part of it being in the U.S.!

2. There was a U.S. state that only lasted for 4 years -The state of Franklin -It's now part of Tennessee.

3. Kaskaskia -Illinois' lost capital -Now an island that technically is still part of Illinois even though the few residents have a Missouri zipcode- Causing some confusion. Kaskaskia is also home to the "Liberty Bell of the West" -You might not have known America had 2 Liberty Bells -this one is even older than the 1 in Philadelphia!

4. Bloody Island -Another island causing confusion if it's part of Illinois or Missouri -It was mostly considered "neutral" therefore becoming a rendezvous for dueilist -Becoming known as Bloody Island.

5. I had to include something about Oklahoma -You might've heard about -No man's land -in the OK panhandle -a haven for outlaws when there was little/no settlement in the area.

So, that's some pretty interesting things I learned-It might come on again sometime or if you wanted to find it online -Here's a little bit I found:

For today's MckLinky Monday with the RHOK we're talking YouTube videos -Specifically -What's your favorite YouTube video?

Oh gosh -It's hard to pick a favorite! I've talked about different videos on here before -Some that represent The Mom Mayhem well like these or these, I've talked about parodies and memes and even a specific meme. Of course 1 of the things I also like to watch on YouTube are music videos -Maybe of my current favorite band, or just an old favorite, or maybe a cool mashup. I also like cool stop motion videos like this.
So, yeah I pretty much like any funny,cool,video-music or otherwise - And I love stumbling onto something new- I might play around on YouTube a lot ;) So, what would be my favorite -Hmmm?...
-Maybe 1 we put in -Showing my cat playing fetch and also my daughter- She's pretty funny too (but you'll probably have to turn the volume up to hear her though)

As you can probably tell this was a few years ago -My cat and daughter are both bigger now ;)
It also appears there's quite a few videos of cats that can play fetch -Some even named Shadow-Who would've thunk it!
